Hexed Cube System
The game works by the use of 3d6. When a player character’s skills are challenged, by the game master, the player is let to know how difficult a challenge is, Easy, Normal, Hard. A challenge might change difficulty depending on the Character itself. A character that is a Navigator might find it easy to spot upcoming Enemies, while an Engineer might find it Hard. Similar to how an Engineer might find it easy to route energy from engines to the ship’s weapons, a Navigator might find it Hard.
Once determined the difficulty of the challenge is the player rolls an appropriate amount of dice, 1d6 for Easy, 2d6 for normal, 3d6 for Hard. They are summing the total and comparing it to the total of the roll the challenger made. The lower result on the dice is the one considered successful, always try to consider a disadvantage for the one succeeding unless their result is 6 smaller than what was required.
If there is no specific challenger, the comparison is determined by the GM depending on the scenario, where a Mundane challenge ( Like reading through a book) might require a 12 or less making Easy and Normal rolls pointless and preferably not requested by the GM. Routine Challenges (like going through daily jobs) requiring a 6 or less. Or Stressful challenges (like keeping an overheated engine from imploding) requiring a 3 or less.
GMs should embrace switching the numbers for the roll requirement for the scenario but Never require less than a 3 if the user is rolling 3 dice or a 2 if they are rolling 2 dice, since asking for impossible rolls should be considered a failure by default.
